Water Board engineers protest suspensions

Express News Service

Engineers working in various wings of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) went on a pen-down strike on Friday to protest against the suspension of engineers by managing director J Syamala Rao on Thursday.

They submitted a representation to the managing director and demanded immediate revocation of the suspended officers. Rao said that he would examine the issue and take necessary action.

During a surprise inspection on Thursday, Rao found no traces of chlorine in the drinking water supplied in the Sahebnagar and Autonagar areas and found serious lapses on the functioning of officials.

He then suspended deputy general manager (Sahebnagar) M Sridhar, section manager (Autonagar) K Nagaraju and technical officer in charge of water quality monitoring (QAT) of Sahebnagar and Autonagar reservoirs KN Prasad.

Besides, show-cause notices were issued to six officials who include chief general managers, general managers and deputy general managers.

Syamala Rao directed the officials of the water quality monitoring wing to inspect and check water reservoirs daily and see that proper chlorination was maintained in the distribution water supply system in Hyderabad, warned that any lapse would be dealt with severely.
