Liquor prices likely to go up

Express News Service

Revenue receipts of the state government fell by close to two per cent this month due to a drop in industrial production for want of energy and drought conditions in the state.

Since the receipts have not been up to the projected target, government is mulling to mop up revenue by increasing the liquor sale price by about 10 per cent. “The revenue was less than expected in September,” said finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy.

The financial situation for the first half of the year was reviewed by the chief minister on Saturday. During the meeting, option of increasing liquor sale prices was discussed. The Distilleries and AP Beverages Corporation had wanted the government to increase the sale price by 15 per cent.
