A month after registering cases against a practicing advocate in connection with alleged theft of former minister P Shankar Rao's signed blank letterheads, the Musheerabad police on Monday recorded the advocate, Sripada Prabhakar's statement in the presence of the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) of Chikkadapally.

The letterheads were sent to Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and the chief secretary, allegedly mentioning that DGP V Dinesh Reddy not be considered for the post of DGP. Prabhakar was Umesh Kumar's counsel.

Assistant commissioner of police of Chikkadapally division, T Chandrasekhara Reddy told Express that the advocate had confessed to drafting the content on the stolen signed letter-heads against V Dinesh Reddy.

“As part of investigation, we recorded Prabhakar's statement in connection with the case and wrote a letter to the chief secretary seeking information on the former minister's signed letterheads. We will record statements of some more witnesses in connection with the case,” Musheerabad inspector Mohammed Riyazuddin said.

He added that they had received the complaint from Rao on September 13, alleging that Prabhakar had stolen blank letterheads signed by him from his residence.

Based on the complaint, Musheerabad police registered cases against Prabhakar under section 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) and 380 (theft in dwelling house).
