Wine Trend
“The most puzzling wine trend that I have encountered in 2013 is two fold. Firstly the ongoing pursuit of food and wine matching and secondly the serving temperature of wines,” says Steve Meckiff, global wine ambassador, Jacob’s Creek.
Food & Wine
“Both food and wine are equally subjective and personal decisions that we consciously undertake as individuals so essentially there is no right or wrong answer. What I encourage friends, family and our loyal customers to do is to keep experimenting and trying new wines with traditional and other cuisines. Jacob’s Creek wines are very “food friendly” and that’s one of the reasons that people trust the wine as they know and appreciate what they are getting,” says Steve, with over 15 years of international wine industry experience in viticulture, winemaking and general management.
Ideal Temprature
“Temperature is very important to allow the wines to express their True Characteristics and the ideal serving temperature varies between sparkling, white and red wines. Sparkling should be approximately 6-8 degrees Celsius. White wines around 12 degrees and red wines to approximately 15 degrees. It is much easier tAo warm a wine up that to cool it down so I encourage people to slightly chill red wines and definitely refrigerate whites and sparkling before serving as the taste experience and wine enjoyment is a noticeable improvement,” says the wine ambassador, who enjoys winter skiing, summer sailing and exploring new countries, cultures, cooking and destinations in the sun, when he is not working.
New Additions
“187ml bottles will also be a new addition to the marketplace as this allows the customer to order a glass and receive a bottle so that the wine is as fresh as when it the the winery. It’s a great size to allow for that 1 glass with lunch or dinner, for the solo traveller or for you just don’t want to open a full bottle. The only thing puzzling about this trend is why didn’t we do it sooner,” he adds.
Wine Journey
“Jacob’s Creek is a five star (James Halliday Wine Companion 2013) rated winery so all of the wines within the portfolio are very highly regarded.
Our customers are what’s important, so as long as they continue to enjoy the great tasting wines of Jacob’s Creek, their wine journey will continue and I’m sure they will come across more and more outstanding wines like the Jacob’s Creek reserve range and their experiences will be heightened by tasting these,” says Steve. Untapped opportunities in wine can revolve around new varieties being introduced to the market, to the wider wine drinking public & the fast that the vast majority of people have yet to really drink wine on a regular basis.
The greater the uptake of wine drinking as a sophisticated and enjoyable social occasion and experience, the potential is enormous and to be part of this journey.
