Following an Intelligence Bureau (IB) alert warning of possible terror threat to the city during the New Year eve celebrations, the city police have stepped up vigil and conducted checking at various shopping malls, super markets and congested localities.
Police conducted decoy operation in several shops and found business establishments failed in taking security measures. Police issued notices to 50 business establishments including malls and supermarkets to take proper security measures. The deputy commissioner of police (DCP) V Satyanarayana said that surprise checks were conducted at various places in Jubilee hills, Banjara Hills, Punjagutta and other sensitive localities and found many business establishments failed in taking security measures.
According to sources, the IB alert suggests the city police that the terrorists could carry out a strike, especially at places where there are large gatherings.
“Recently arrested Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal had confessed that the congested locality of Begum Bazar and other parts in the city are their targets, police along with bomb squad and sniffer dogs visited various places and conducted checks. A decoy operation was conducted by police in plain clothes taking weapons into a shop. No one noticed it and it was revealed the shop management failed in taking security measures. Police issued notice to take security measures and warned police will take stern action if the management failed,” the DCP said.
