Elections to the Warangal DCCB president and vice-president posts have been once again postponed following directions from the high court. The high court on Tuesday temporarily stayed the election proceedings (memo) issued by the election officer to conduct elections on March 7.

Justice PV Sanjay Kumar was dealing with a writ petition filed by Janga Raghava Reddy challenging the decision of the election officer in postponing declaration of results of Warangal District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) chief elections. The judge, in his interim direction, also ordered the state government to file  a counter affidavit on the petition and adjourned the hearing in the case by two weeks.

The petitioner’s counsel said that Raghava Reddy has filed his nomination to the president post for the election held on Feb 19. At the time of declaration of the results D Madhava Reddy and others made a  complaint which resulted in postponing declaration of the election result. Meanwhile, the election officer has issued another notification for conducting fresh elections to the DCCB on Feb 25. This was challenged in the high court, he explained.

The counsel further brought to the court notice about issuance of another memo by election officer to conduct election to the DCCB on March 7. He contended that the government has no powers to postpone the elections once held to the posts. The government has made the election officer to postpone declaration of results for political considerations. He urged for suspension of the memo issued by the election officer.

The government counsel disputed with the petitioner’s arguments and claimed that the government has powers to postpone the election.

After hearing both the parties, the judge passed interim orders by suspending the memo issued on March 1 for conduct of election to the Warangal DCCB on March 7.
