Archeology department officials on Friday evening shifted a Satavahana kingdom era inscription that was excavated last year from a paddy field at Mukkatraopet in Velgatoor mandal. Archeology department assistant director N Mallikarjuna Rao said the authorities have collected a small piece of the inscription for scientific study. “The rest of the inscription is still in the farm land and it will be soon shifted to the museum,” he said. The inscription from Satavahana kingdom era i.e., 2nd century AD has Brahmi script on it. “The experts from Bangalore will soon read the inscription for further information,” he said.
Museum renovation: The archeology museum opposite Karimnagar bus station is undergoing a makeover. The museum houses various ancient, rare exhibits including Satavahana’s Naga Muchalinda (five headed cobra idol), various inscrip tion, a cannon from Nizam Kingdom made out of panchaloha, an ancient Buddhist stupa from Pashigam in Velgatoor mandal. The ancient museum monuments in the museum premises are a must visit. “We are planning to highlight the collection at museum and old monuments in the next year. The school managements should encourage students to learn more about our history. A Hanuman statue made of sand which was brought from Dharmapuri has also been placed in museum premises,” said assistant director N Mallikarjuna Rao.
