The recruitment of assistant professors in Osmania University (OU) has taken a new turn with High Court asking the administration to withdraw its order cancelling an appointment given to a candidate.

B Archana, who approached the High Court, was appointed as an assistant professor in the commerce department last month.

A day later, her offer letter was cancelled and someone else was appointed. The order to restore her appointment came from the court on October 4.

Prof S Satyanarayana, vice-chancellor, Osmania University, confirmed that Archana’s cancellation orders were taken back by the varsity.

When asked as to why the her appointment was cancelled, he replied that though she was not selected by the varsity, an appointment letter was sent to her from the registrar’s office.

The registrar had said that it was an act of oversight. When the authorities cancelled her appointment, she approached the High Court.

“The court gave us directions to let her continue as assistant professor. She is continuing as an assistant professor,” he added.
