Hyderabad area grows to 922 sq km, population to 71.70 lakh

GHMC commissioner MT Krishna Babu has asked all the additional commissioners, zonal commissioners and deputy commissioners to visit the 36 gram panchayats, which have recently been merged with Greater Hyderabad, to study the conditions.

The GHMC area, after the merger, has increased from 625 sq.km to 922 sq.km, an increase of 297 sq.km.

Krishna Babu told the meeting that services such as sanitation, water supply and electricity would continue to be carried out by the existing staff using the vehicles and other infrastructure of the panchayats concerned but would be done under the control of GHMC.

He urged the public representatives of those areas to submit proposals on further improvement in civic amenities to the  deputy commissioners.

The population of Greater Hyderabad, as per the 2011 census including the merged villages, is 71,70,545 (67,31,790 +  4,38,755).

The expanded GHMC will have 30 circles and the divisions will be limited to 150 with a population of 50,000 each for division _   75 divisions in the core area of the city and 75 outside.

The area of the expanded city is 922.66 sq.km (625.52 sq.km + 297.14 sq.km).
