HYDERABAD:For the first time, Telangana political JAC (TJAC) chairman Prof M Kodandaram came out all guns blazing to launch a scathing attack on the TRS government on Saturday.

The TJAC put the blame squarely on K Chandrasekhar Rao’s dispensation for ongoing farmers’ suicides, and threatened to expose the government’s failures.

Unlike the soft-tone adopted by the TJAC till now, the members went ballistic on Saturday.

“We have waited so far for the government to act on several counts. But, we will not delay any further in raising people’s issues,” Kodandaram told reporters after the TJAC held a meeting here on Saturday to chalk out their future course of action.  Ever since the TRS government took the reins of administration in the new State, the members of the TJAC had refrained from attacking the government over the functioning. However, with harsh criticism heaped on the K Chandrasekhar Rao’s dispensation on Saturday, the TJAC signaled that the gloves are off and they are ready to launch a frontal attack on the government.

The TJAC chairman alleged that the government had failed to mitigate the effects of the drought in the State, and wanted the government to take up contingency measures to face the same.

He also demanded that the State government to step up efforts for bifurcation of the High Court.

In wake of ongoing controversy over the government’s intention to pull down the heritage structure of the Osmania General Hospital, the TJAC members said they would visit the hospital to take stock of the situation.

He further said the TJAC members would visit Delhi to exert pressure on Centre to finish the bifurcation process, pending in around 60 departments. On August 8, a discussion would be held with experts to analyse how to harness the Godavari water, he added.

What Triggered The Tirade?

What made the TJAC leaders, particularly Prof M Kodandaram, express their displeasure over the functioning of the KCR government? The buzz in political circles is that the TRS government’s alleged efforts to gradually ignore Telangana icons such as K Jayashankar from the Telangana iconography has annoyed some of the Telangana intellectuals. Moreover, State government’s recent ‘unpopular’ proposals such as relocating secretariat, demolishing of heritage structures such as Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad and other moves are said to be further widening the rift between the TJAC and the ruling party.
