HYDERABAD: The High Court permitted a petitioner on Monday to file a fresh petition seeking a ban on the screening of a Telugu movie, ‘Gopala Gopala’ starring Venkatesh and Pavan Kalyan. Petitioner C Raghunatha Rao, a resident of Hyderabad, sought withdrawal of the film from theatres until its re-certification by the Central Board of Film Certification.

He said the movie was hurting the religious sentiments of Hindu faith and religion as it portrayed Hindu spiritual gurus in poor light degrading them and even denigrating women. The bench pointed out that without making the film’s producer and director a party to the case, it cannot pass any order.

Then the petitioner urged the court to permit him to withdraw the plea and file a fresh one. While dismissing the plea as withdrawn, the court granted liberty to the petitioner.ens
