Auto drivers rejecting to take passengers as per the meter tariff is a regular scenario in most of the Indian cities, but an American woman has given it back to an auto driver in a very unique way in Hyderabad.
The incident happened when C. Christine Fair got into an auto-rickshaw after auto-driver refused to switch on the trip meter installed in the vehicle.
Christine decided to make sure that the driver takes her as per the meter tariff and sat in the auto and started singing Bollywood songs till the driver agreed to switch on the meter.
While siting in the auto she also switched on the camera and recorded the whole incident, which she later uploaded on her personal Youtube channel.
In the video, Christine is heard as saying, “I am free today and can sit in the auto-rickshaw for the whole day.”
“I can sing amazing songs for all your costumers,” she said to the auto-driver after which he was forced to switch on the meter.
Christine wrote on the video description: “This is how to handle a sc****l taxi or autowallah who either doesn't want to take you to your destination (for whatever fazul bahanna he offers) OR use the meter. It's taken me some 20 years to figure out this technique to get an auto or a taxi driver in India to take me to my destination with the meter on. You can see this man has been utterly defeated. I need to carry with me some song sheets. Note that I have used this technique now in several cities. It has worked every time. No need to get mad. Just toss away your shame...and wait out the miscreant. I suspect it will work elsewhere in South Asia.”
