HYDERABAD:  Hyderabad Live, a two-day workshop to discuss about the advances in treatment methods and techniques in interventional cardiology, with main focus on ‘Bifurcation Angioplasty’ will be held here on July 11 and 12.

Treating blockage of arteries at the bifurcation or ‘Y’ junction of the blood vessels is the most challenging task for cardiologists. World over interventional cardiologists are pondering over and striving for new solutions to address this complex problem. As bifurcation angioplasty is the latest treatment method to cure bifurcation lesions, brain storming would be done on the concept to evolve the best possible treatment method, said Dr K Sarat Chandra, cardiologist at Indo-US Super speciality Hospital, said about the workshop at a press conference here on Thursday.

About 500 cardiologists from all over India and from abroad will  participate in the ‘Hyderabad Live’ workshop to exchange knowledge on the advances in treating heart diseases. Eight live surgery cases will be showcased during the workshop to understand the complexities involved in surgeries relating to bifurcation lesions.

The coronary artery tree of blood vessels has a main coronary artery which branches into several side branches to distribute blood throughout the body. The area where artery branches into a vessel is called bifurcation and the blockages formed at this junction are difficult to treat and may even result in putting the patient in danger if not treated properly, Dr Sridhar Kasturi said.

Utmost dexterity is needed on the part of interventional cardiologist to clear the blocks in both vessels in one go and the Hyderabad Live workshop is being held to impart such skills to cardiologists, added Dr Sridhar.

Globally renowned interventional cardiologists Dr Samin Sharma from the US, Dr SW Rha, from Korea will participate and perform surgeries live during the workshop.
