Express News Service

HYDERABAD: Accompanied by their parents, scores of students, who failed in the SSC exams, on Tuesday ransacked the office of the Hyderabad District Education Officer (DEO) demanding that grace marks be added to them in subjects in which they had failed.

Anguished over the marks, the protestors broke the furniture, flower pots and windows at the office. Similar scenes were also witnessed at the Sujatha Public School, Abids, where recounting of SSC answer papers of Ranga Reddy district was being done.

“My son has been a school topper all through the year and got good grades in all subjects but failed in maths. Many students who have excelled in internal exams have failed dismally in some subjects in public exams. How is it possible? We have many doubts on the correction and results,” fumed S Ilaiah, father of a student, who has applied for reverification. Similar complaints poured in from many other parents and students and it is mostly in maths and science subjects that a majority of the students have failed.

The SSC results were announced on Sunday and the overall pass percentage in the State decreased by a shocking eight percent this year compared to last time.

“Decrease in pass percentage is not confined to a  particular district. All over the state, pass percentage has dipped by eight percent. May be,  the students might have found it difficult to adjust to the new pattern. But whoever is not satisfied with their marks can apply for recounting or reverification. Students can contact their DEO office concerned,” said Hyderabad DEO Somi Reddy.

How to apply for Recounting?

The students, who want to get their marks recounted should remit `500 per subject within 12 days from the publication of results through Demand Draft (DD) from the State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) or State Bank of India (SBI) drawn in favour of Secretary to the Commissioner for Government Examinations, Telangana, Hyderabad.
