HYDERABAD: Niloufer Hospital is going to have a new exclusive Out Patient Division (OPD) building from June first week. Niloufer NATCO OPD building was constructed at a cost of `5 crore beside the main building and authorities are busy shifting furniture and equipment to the new premises.
Though Niloufer had a separate OP block earlier, the emergency block came up in its place and it was shifted to the backside of main building, causing inconvenience to visiting patients. Besides, not all out-patients are treated at one place, which has led to confusion among the people. While OP cases relating to pregnant women are treated at the block behind the main building, cases such as concerning new-borns and children are treated at the emergency block itself.
Currently, about 500 out-patients visit Niloufer hospital everyday. The new spacious four-storey building is constructed keeping in view the future requirements and it can easily cater to about 1000 patients, said hospital superintendent K Devaraj.
The new building is partly sponsored by NATCO pharma and officials are making efforts to open the block on June 2, the Telangana State Formation Day. Health Minister C Laxma Reddy will inaugurate the new building. Irrespective of the formal launch date, authorities have decided to bring the new building into operation by June first week.
Due to space crunch and long queues, pregnant women are forced to wait for hours on end to consult a doctor and cleanliness is also a major problem, posing as it does, the threat of infections to new mothers and new-borns. “The newly-constructed block will provide a completely different experience. It will definitely be an asset for Niloufer hospital and we want to ensure that it is maintained cleanly,” said Devaraj.
