Two Options for GHMC on Voter Roll Deletions: Marri

Express News Service

HYDERABAD: Former minister and Congress senior leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy has suggested two options for the Greater Hyderabad municipal commissioner for including the names of the voters deleted from electoral rolls and conducting elections to the corporation.

In a letter to the commissioner on Wednesday, Reddy suggested that the names of the voters wrongly deleted must be included in a Supplementary Roll to the Draft Electoral Rolls published on October 5 if the notification for GHMC elections was issued by TSEC before November 11.

Alternatively, the publishing of the Ward-wise Photo Electoral Rolls for GHMC elections has to be delayed till after the publication of the Electoral Roll with reference to January 1, 2016 by the Election Commission scheduled to be published.

Shashidhar Reddy told the GHMC commissioner that as per the directions of the High Court, elections to GHMC had to be completed by January 31. For this purpose, the state government has been directed to complete all the groundwork by December 15. The first task for GHMC will be to notify delimitation of wards, followed by publishing the ward-wise photo electoral rolls for the delimited wards by adopting in toto the electoral rolls (ER) published by the Election Commission (EC).

With the publication of the Draft Electoral Rolls in January next, the Electoral Rolls published in January 2015 will no more be valid and cannot be adopted for the ward-wise electoral roll for GHMC elections, Shashidhar Reddy contended.

“You are also aware that in accordance with the decision of the Election Commission, the names of these 6.30 lakh voters are being re-verified as part of the ongoing door-to-door enumeration of BC voters.  While that being so, if the Ward-wise Photo ER are to published now, the Draft Electoral Rolls published in October 2015 can alone adopted for GHMC elections as the Electoral Rolls published in January 2015 are no more valid without any of the names from the wrongly deleted from the voters list,” Shashidhar Reddy said and requested the GHMC to examine any of the two suggestions he made.
