SA Woman Drug Smuggler Sent to Judicial Custody

Express News Service

HYDERABAD: The South-African woman, Mosie Moosa (32),  arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on the charge of attempting to smuggle cocaine through the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here was sent to 2-week judicial custody on Wednesday.

NCB  officials are likely to file a petition in the court seeking her custody to know the identity of those involved in the drug racket, and where the contraband was planned to be dispatched.

Probably, to avoid media’s notice, NCB officials took the woman,  who had hit the headlines by carrying 52 capsules in her body the other day,  away from Osmania General Hospital (OGH)  at around 4 a.m. on Wednesday.

Sources in the hospital said she had recovered completely and was fit to talk. “Her health condition has restored to normalcy. She was discharged in the early hours of Wednesday,” sources added.

Moosa claimed to be pregnant when the NCB officials intercepted her at the airport after arrival from Dubai.  A body scan revealed that she had concealed something in the stomach. The NCB officials then took her to the hospital.

The officials are exploring all options, including questioning her, to know whom she was supposed to meet at the RGIA, the city where the smugglers planned to extract all the drug capsules from Moosa, CCTV footage, call data records are some sources which officials are hoping would give some leads.

As is the modus operandi of smugglers, the chain of contacts are not revealed all at once to the person carrying the drugs. This, sources said, would pose a hindrance to pull out identity of all those involved in the racket.

The woman landed in Hyderabad on August 31, and her itinerary indicated she was set to leave the city on September 10. The 10-day window which she planned to stay put in the country leaves investigators with many loose ends  to connect, including her travel plans to deliver the drugs.
