HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has announced a rebate of 5 per cent to those making annual property tax payment for 2016-17 by April 30.
The GHMC has announced ‘Early Bird’ scheme to encourage residents to pay property tax in the beginning of the fiscal year itself. Persons who pay property tax for 2016-17 before April 30 will get 5 per cent rebate. The rebate will be on current year’s tax and not applicable to arrears, GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy has said.
The early bird scheme is aimed at encouraging citizens to pay their property tax for the current year in advance and it will be applicable to those making the payment for one year. Owners who do not pay the tax till the end of July will have to pay an interest of 2 per cent a month.
Reddy told reporters that the GHMC expected to collect Rs 200 crore under the Early Bird Scheme which was introduced in 2013-14 and helped the corporation collect Rs 109 crore in April 2013, Rs 111 crore in April 2014 and around Rs 161 crore in April 2015.
Building Permissions
The GHMC proposes to introduce an online system soon to give building permissions. Citizens can submit their applications online for building permissions on the lines of the system in vogue in Bengaluru.
Reddy said the building committee used to clear applications in 30 days. The committee has held 18 meetings since November to clear applications and the time taken for clearing the applications has now come down to 25 days.
Responding to a query, the commissioner said biometric system would be introduced in the sanitation wing next month on an experimental basis in one circle in each zone.
