Breakwell: Learning parenthood one tweet at a time

HYDERABAD: With Over half a million followers, James Breakwell is officially one the funniest dads on the internet defying all of our collective eye-rolls on every dad joke ever.

On his Twitter account XplodingUnicorn, he tweets of parenting fails and his conversation with his four daughters, all under the age of six.

He tells City Express in an exclusive chat. “My kids love when I tweet about them, but I’m sure that will change as they get older. Right now, they get jealous if I leave them out. I read my jokes to them when they ask, but the humour often goes over their heads. That’s not hard when the biggest one is only about 4 feet tall.”

Breakwell has given the internet a serious case of the giggles thanks to his brutally honest and hilarious tweets about his lovely daughters. “I have four daughters, so I tweet about parenthood.”

“I joined Twitter after it had been around for several years, and for a while I was afraid I was too late to build an audience there. Luckily, people have lower standards than I thought, and slowly followers drifted my way”.

Breakwell has a regular day job  and that his boss and colleagues know nothing about his Twitter escapades. “If any of my fellow employees did see pictures of my kids online, they’d never make the connection. My daughters are adorable, so obviously they don’t look anything like me.”

This internet famous dad also has a book scheduled to release next year with BenBella Books. It’s called Only Dead on the Inside: A Parent’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.“It’s a mash-up of a traditional parenting advice book and a zombie survival guide, bringing together two totally unrelated things in a comedy book no one asked for but everyone needs,” he says.

Breakwell, however, notes that other than the fun parts that we read, raising his does get pretty emotional at times.  “At least one of them is sobbing at all times about a crisis that exists only in her head. I’ve heard it so much, it barely registers anymore. I think they broke my eardrums. If I wasn’t tweeting about the funny parts of parenthood, I’d probably have a mental breakdown. Twitter is cheaper than a therapist,” he says.
