HYDERABAD: Clasping her face with two palms, Shantabai, an old woman who lives alone in a room a few feet away from the collapsed building, said she saw the building crash down like a pack of cards. Shantabhai was sitting on the threshold of her room, when the tragic incident occurred.
"We heard a creaking noise and wondered if the building will collapse. And it did, one floor after the other. The air was filled with dust for around 15 minutes. Nobody dared to go near the building. We then called authorities for help," said Shantabhai.
Sitting on the threshold, the old woman said on Friday that she did not sleep from Thursday night (when the building collapsed) and that she was petrified after the incident.
“The workers living in the building were having dinner when the building collapsed,” she said.
Another old woman, Chanderbhai, who lives in another room beside Shantabhai's, said that the seven-storey building collapsed in a span of a few minutes.
