HYDERABAD: The state government proposes another mini-barrage, Sadarmat, across Godavari river in Adilabad. The barrage, to be built with a storage capacity of 2 tmcft, is intended to irrigate 20,000 acres of land. It will supplement the 122-year-old Sadarmat anicut.

“The old anicut has no storage capacity and was designed to irrigate 6,000 acres. The barrage that will come up upstream the anicut will have a storage of 2 tmcft to irrigate 20,000 acres,” sources in the irrigation department told Express.

The Sadarmat anicut, constructed by the French, was located in Khanapur mandal in Adilabad district. It was constructed by engineer JJ Ottley during 1891-92. “The proposal for the new Sadarmat barrage is lying with CM KCR. Once he clears the file, the construction process will commence,” sources said.

TARGETS

The irrigation department has decided to allot funds in the budget for Nizam Sagar modernisation and Singur projects, which will be completed by June under category one.

Yellampalli, Mid-Mannair, some packages in Pranahita and Devadula will be completed by June 2017 under category two. All the new projects taken up like Palamuru-Rangareddy, Dindi, Sitarama, Kaleshwaram, Tummadi Hatti and Penganga would be taken up under category three, sources said.
