‘Innovative Educator’ uses latest tech tools and software including Yammer, a social networking site for school teachers, to stay on top of the teaching game.

HYDERABAD:While most teachers scoff at the idea of the usage of technology to learn their lessons, dismissing it as too futuristic and unnecessary, here is a teacher from the Hyderabad Public School, Ramanthapur, who revels in using technology and digs the idea of being on Yammer, a social networking site to collaborate and share with the school teachers.  Lakshmi Tulasi Angara, a teacher with 24 years of experience at HPS, is among the few teachers who has been named as a Microsoft Innovative Educator.

The software company conducted a training programme titled ‘ How does Microsoft Innovative Learning Help in Teaching’ for teachers to enhance the teaching and learning process in educational institutions. Tulasi says she has learnt to teach biology using Microsoft Innovative Learning for her senior school students to make the teaching and learning process simpler. “The idea of using technology in classroom helps the students connect themselves to class as they are more inclined towards technology”. She continues,“Recording videos as part of presentations and sharing the files is a unique feature of this technology. This approach is surely a visual treat for students who look for creativity in the world of technology. Also, it is a way visualise the concepts of teaching”, she says.

“Teaching and learning can no longer remain confined to the walls of the classroom, chalk and blackboard method’. One needs to incorporate the various tools to create their presentations, lesson plans, parent-teacher meetings etc. which teachers can share among their departments. These tools include Office 365, One Note, Office Mix, Cortana, Continuum, Sway, Skype for Business, Kodu Game Lab for improving visual learning more interesting. The teachers have an opportunity to join in the educator’s group Yammer a social networking site to collaborate and share with the school teachers all over the world.
