HYDERABAD: Even after the passage of 20 days since three children from Kalapathar locality in Old City took ill and had to be hospitalised after drinking Frooti during Iftar, the forensic report on whether the packeted drinks are spurious or not is still due.

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report was to be sent to police a week after it was sent for testing on June 12.

The police had then, as now, stated that they could take action against the wholesale dealer and the seller at Indiranagar in Kalapathar only after receiving the forensic report.

Cases under sections 272, 273 and 420 have been booked against the wholesale sellers and the shop owner.

Meanwhile, Md Azam (27), father of the three children - Md Azaan (4), Md Faizan (3) and Md Arhaan (1) fear that the wholesale dealer may have bribed officials to not let the report out, which may result in their arrest.

After meeting South Zone DCP V Satyanarayana at his office on Saturday, Azam said, “The police is dilly-dallying on taking action against the culprits even after reports from private hospitals in Jahanuma and Koti, where the children were first taken to and then transferred, state that food poisoning happened due to spurious Frooti.”

“I would not sit silent until I get justice. The treatment cost me over `1 lakh. If I keep quiet, children of auto drivers or labourers, who can afford `10 Frooti but cannot afford `1 lakh treatment, may be victims of this spurious racket,” he said, adding that he is contemplating to file a suit against the manufacturer of Frooti, Parle Agro Pvt. Ltd.

On the other hand, police said they can’t take any action based on medical reports of private hospitals and have to rely on FSL reports.

“We are waiting for the report from FSL, which we expect soon. Only after receiving it, we can take stringent action,” said Satyanarayana.
