Report on encroachments on Durgam Cheruvu sought

HYDERABAD: Concerned over the the damage being caused to “Durgam Cheruvu” lake due to rampant encroachment and pollution, a division bench of the Hyderabad High Court has directed Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to submit reports regarding illegal constructions on the lakebed and release of industrial waste and other effluents into the water body.

The bench comprising Justice V Ramasubramanian and Justice A Shankar Narayana was dealing with a petition filed by Captain J Rama Rao seeking steps to protect Durgam Cheruvu lake.

While posting the matter after two weeks, the bench directed the authorities of GHMC and HMDA to place the reports by next date of hearing.
