Grateful this sunday on Father's Day

Seshu Chamarty

HYDERABAD: Whose father is not great?

Hardly any, and well tell me, wasn’t mine one?

Be that so, dad is still a special image we all nurture

All through our lives, especially in our childhood

When we mark our dad as so special,

Mostly when the times are hard enough

And equally well, we remember such moments, later in life,

When we did receive his maximum love,

And those unforgettable things he presented us with.

Dad is our guardian angel or no less a godsend,

For he is the one who waits in queues at all the places,

From rations shops to hospitals, be his attendance all alone

At college admissions or outside the schools and colleges

When there are exams and when he picked us prompt on time

At rail stations and airports and from the places of friends even!

Dad is the one who saved our tender innocent souls.

If mothers give us birth and remain our alter ego,

Dads do all the dirty work to keep that bondage intact,

And unaffected and see us safe and make us feel

Proud of ourselves, not to mention our awareness

Of our faith, conviction, self-worth, levelheaded nature,

Equanimity, prudence and you name them after values,

About all of which we claim having earned by ourselves.

I still miss my dad even in my sixties and still remember

He never asked me any quid pro quo like all dads.
