The death of B Tech student K Devi on May 1 was due to a car accident and not sexual assault said police commissioner M Mahendar Reddy in a press conference in Hyderabad on Sunday ‘Injuries from crash led to death’.
Elaborating on the investigation, the commissioner said, “Postmortem examination report suggests no injuries on her body which can point to a sexual assault. Physical, scientific and medical evidences suggest injuries from the impact of car crash led to her death. In 7 minutes between when Devi last spoke to her father and the time of accident, an act of assault on her leading to murder and recreate the scene at another spot is not possible.”
“No evidence was found to substantiate the statement of witness Ramulu cited by the complainant in his second complaint, in which it was alleged that Ramulu saw fight between the two and the woman was crying for her as she was dragged in the back seat of the car,” he added.
‘Devi could have been saved’
Devi’s father K Niranjan Reddy spoke to media thanking the police. He said that Devi could have been saved had he been informed after the accident. “My calls to her phone were not being answered. It took 32 minutes to shift her to hospital. Had they answered my call and informed me, I would have taken her to hospital in 2 minutes,” he said.
