HYDERABAD: He is a budding cricketer and she is a young business woman. Both never imagined to be together but cupid had something else in store for them. Their story is not like anybody else’s. They are truly a match made in heaven. We are talking about Cricketer Ashish Reddy and entrepreneur Kainaz, who tied the knot this February. In a candid chat with Telangana Express, Kainaz Reddy speaks about her newly-married life and life outside the field.
Knowing each other
My brother Khordad and I have known Ashish since childhood as he lives in our neighbourhood and went to the same school as my brother and the same college as me. However, Ashish used to be away a lot on cricket tours right since his school days. I don’t exactly remember what age we were when we first met as we both live and grew up in Sainikpuri, Secunderabad. He was going to Bhavan’s school at the same time as my brother, although they were in different classes. We used to hang out with the same group with other friends.
The Courtship
Ashish and I always got along very well and things just fell into place when he proposed. We decided that since we were so compatible and liked the same things, we should think about getting married. My parents initially asked us to wait since we belonged to different religions and cultures (I am a Parsi, he is a Telugu) But since neither Ashish nor I are particularly religious, once they saw that we were extremely compatible, they gave us their blessings.
Being the Cricketer’s wife
This is really ironic for me since I do not understand cricket well. My mother and brother love cricket, my father and I won’t be able to tell the difference between silly point and long on! However, that does not prevent me from supporting Ashish and cheering him on! Along with the perks of being in the public eye, there is also bound to be some amount of invasion of privacy. It is always good to know where to draw a line that others cannot cross.
Anyone who marries a cricketer can’t help but know this in a cricket crazy nation like India.
Regarding invasion of privacy, we have been lucky so far, although Ashish is recognised wherever we go and people do ask to ask him for pictures. Sometimes it might just be in the middle of a meal in arestaurant. There will always be trolls, it is better to ignore them and not give them any importance unless they cross the line and invade your personal space.
Traveling around with him
I like travelling with him as I get to spend maximum quality time in an otherwise whirl-wind IPL tour. At times, matches in different cities are only two days apart! I like the whole atmosphere of watching a match live and I am rather happy to be a part of his cricket franchise SRH. It is like being part of an extended family. Every one is from diverse places and cultures, yet so warm and humble.
Failure and Success
He has always performed to the best of his ability and put in his 100 per cent dedication and effort, and that’s all that matters to me. He has (touchwood) performed well in all the matches he has played this season. My parents have always told me that my birth was very lucky for them and I hope to bring the same good luck into Ashish’s life too! Actually, Ashish is extremely disciplined and hard working and this will always ensure that he does very well in cricket.
Life after Marriage
Life is suddenly hectic but still very good and I thank God and Ashish for that! I visit my parents and grandparents as often as I can when we are in Hyderabad. They and my husband help keep me grounded. My married life has been extremely rewarding thanks to a caring, loving and patient husband and equally loving in-laws. Otherwise at the moment, life is full of cricket matches, trips to different airports and cities, meeting other wives and events organised by and for the team.
