In a ‘healthy’ move, GHMC cracks the whip on Hyderabad hotels

HYDERABAD: Officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) raided prominent hotels and restaurants in city including Minerva Grand at SD Road, Secunderabad, Astoria Hotel at RTC X Roads, Paradise at IS Sadan in Santoshnagar and others on Monday for maintaining the premises in unhygienic conditions and using unstamped meat.

Till evening, as many as 27 eating establishments were inspected and 15 of them were found to be in unhygienic conditions, while others were using unstamped meat.


The Health and Sanitation wing of the civic body carried out the inspections and raids in the entire GHMC jurisdiction on Monday. Officials imposed fines on the hotels and restaurants in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. 


Earlier, the civic body had instructed all the hoteliers and restaurateurs within the GHMC limits to maintain their premises in hygienic conditions and use only stamped goat meat from notified slaughterhouses.

Basing on the information and complaints received from people, the officials swung into action and raided and sealed some of the hotels and restaurants on Monday.


As per information received, the deputy municipal commissioners (DMCs) concerned, along with officials of sanitation and veterinary wings, inspected the eateries and action was initiated as a follow up.
