Public urinators to be garlanded

From our online archive

HYDERABAD: People urinating in public places at Putlibowli near Koti on Sunday were welcomed with garlands by GHMC workers.

Adopting Gandhian principles, the sanitation staff, while on their routine duty at Putlibowli, found a person urinating in a public place causing nuisance to the passersby. The staff caught hold of the person and garlanded him and clapped for him. They also gave a Gandhian lecture to the person against open urination.

Few persons who tried to urinate in the same area had to run away from the place seeing the staff with garlands in hands. GHMC deputy municipal commissioner, Vijaya Laksmi told Express that the corporation has put up posters against open urination in public places and provided address places where public toilets have been provided in the circle.

Instead of penalising the persons, GHMC wants to adopt the novel approach to drive away people against urinating at public places like Koti, Chaderghat and Abids, she added.
