HYDERABAD: The Kacheguda railway station here, the first to become a DigiPay station on Indian railways a few days ago, has earned the praise of the Union ministry of railways.

The concept of DigiPay stations was included by the railways in its Business Plan 2017-18 which was released by railway minister Suresh Prabhu in New Delhi, an SCR press release here said on Friday.
Railways plans to make 25 important stations as DigiPay stations such as Kacheguda where rail users will have the option of making all payments in cashless mode.

The idea of DigiPay station has been conceived and constantly pursued by SCR general manager Vinod Kumar Yadav. He was instrumental in encouraging and motivating the entire official machinery to implement the concept since it fulfills the vision of the prime minister and the railway minister to enable people to make digital and cashless payments.

It was a herculean task initially to involve the vendors and licensees of stalls at the Kacheguda railway station. Once their apprehensions were assuaged, they extended total cooperation by equipping themselves with Point of Sales  machines to accept credit, debit, RuPay cards to transact their business.

The response to the digital payment initiative at Kacheguda has been encouraging with more than 20 pc transactions at the station going digital and increasing each day.Vendors are happy to become partners in this iitiative while passengers too are happy for the added convenience of digital payment.
