Kamatipura head constable arrested by colleagues for sexually abusing minor

HYDERABAD: A 42-year-old head constable of a Hyderabad police station was arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl, whom he allegedly maintained an illicit relationship with, by “taking advantage of her poverty”.
 
Head constable Mohammed Mahboob has been a part of Kamatipura police station for the past two years. The victim and her family live in a hut opposite the police station.
 
Kamatipura police inspector S Sudarshan said, "The head constable Mahboob developed a relationship with the victim by offering gifts and taking advantage of her poverty.  Due to his wife’s illness, the head constable started maintaining an illegal relationship with the minor girl. He also took her to different states. Later, he assaulted the victim sexually."
 
Though the parents of the accused knew about the relationship between the two, it was the elder sister of the victim who complained to Kamatipura police. Later, the victim and her family members lodged a complaint of sexual abuse against Mohammed Mahboob.
 
The minor was shifted to hospital for proper medical examination to establish her age. The top rung of the police department are likely to issue orders by Friday evening, suspending  Mahboob for indulging in the heinous crime. 
 
"An enquiry has been ordered. No one is above the law. Report will be sent to Hyderabad city police commissioner recommending stringent action against the accused," Hyderabad South Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) V Satyanarayana said. 

Based on the complaint, police arrested Mahboob and registered cases under section of rape, kidnapping and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act (POCSO) against him.
