HYDERABAD: Hyderabad SHE teams on Sunday arrested a 26-year-old man from Chittoor of Andhra Pradesh. The accused harassed a married woman by making phone calls to her. He was also involved in harassing other women in the city by calling them from different numbers.
The accused P Babajan, a carpenter from Rajulaveedhi of Chittoor district, used to call the victim at odd hours.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes) Swati Lakra said the SHE Teams, Hyderabad City police, received a complaint from a woman. In the complaint, the victim stated that since a fortnight she had been receiving calls from unknown numbers and the person on the other side abused her. “Initially she thought it was a case of mistaken identity and ignored it. However, the person started calling her frequently, even at odd hours. Unable to bear harassment, she told everything to her husband. The husband-wife duo lodged a complaint with the SHE Teams,’’ Swati Lakra said.
Based on the complaint, Chikkadapally police registered cases under section 507 (Criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC. The accused was brought to the city and investigation is under way.
