HYDERABAD: The metro rail stretch between Mettuguda and Begumpet is ready for trial runs with successful energisation of the 25,000-volt overhead electric traction system (OETS).

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has invited prime minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the first phase of metro rail towards the end of November. The Nagole-Mettuguda and Miyapur-Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar sections of track had already been energised and, after obtaining sanction of CEIG, trial runs were also completed. In the first phase, the metro section between Miyapur and Ameerpet, a distance  of 13 km, and another 17-km-long stretch between Ameerpet and Nagole are nearing completion.

DVS Raju, chief electrical inspector, CEIG, GOI for Hyderabad Metro Rail, conducted the statutory inspection of OETS between Begumpet and Mettuguda metro stations and accorded sanction for energisation of OETS. “Energisation of OETS will facilitate conduct of oscillation tests of metro trains by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation of the ministry of railways. An RDSO team will conduct tests in this section and issue a certificate on satisfactory results. Later, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd will conduct trial run of metro trains in this section.” Raju said after  inspection.

“We are thankful to Raju for conducting the statutory inspection of OETS from Begumpet to Mettuguda. Now, we can proceed with the rest of the statutory tests in our endeavour to bring the services of metro rail to the people at the earliest.” LTMRHL managing director and chief executive officer Shivanand Nimbargi said.
