HYDERABAD: At least six persons were injured, two of them grievously, when a car rammed a group of patients at Osmania Hospital here on Thursday. According to police, the incident occurred at around 8.30 am when the premises was teeming with a large number of outpatients and visitors. The car belongs to Dr Rehan Qureshi , a plastic surgeon working at the hospital.
A security guard, Shivraj, took the keys of the car from Dr Qureshi, saying that it had to be moved as it was parked haphazardly blocking the way for other vehicles. Shivraj does not know driving nor does he have a licence. After starting the engine, he drove off and the car rammed patients and attendants who were sitting on a retaining wall, a few feet away from the OP Block.
All the six outpatients, who came for treatment, were injured. Of them,95-year-old Mohammed Omer, a retired Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited employee, got his leg crushed by the rampaging car while Qamar Begum (55) too sustained grievous injuries on her legs. Those who received minor injuries were identified as Anjaiah, Md Iqbal, Vijay and Mallesh. All of them have been admitted to the hospital.
Qamar Begum had come to the hospital along with her daughter Aarifa Begum as she was suffering from pain in her leg. “Now she lost her foot and received fractures in leg,” wailing family members said. Cases were registered against Shivraj who surrendered to the police.
