HYDERABAD: Asking agricultural scientists and researchers to spend considerable time with farmers to come out with practical solutions to their problems, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu suggested that staying with farmers should be made mandatory for students who pursue agricultural courses.

“We have a situation today where despite phenomenal increase in food production, farmers are not able to get adequate returns from their investment. Agriculture remains an unattractive vocation for many families. We need to focus on increasing productivity and improving rural, agro-based economy, especially the incomes of farmers,” Venkaiah Naidu said. He was interacting with agricultural researchers during a seminar on ‘Doubling Farm Income by 2022 in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana’ held at Indian Institute of Rice Research (ICAR) here.
