Hyderabad: Booth Level Officers warned against dereliction of duties

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner on Wednesday warned against dereliction of duties by any Booth Level Officer (BLO) and said action will be initiated against them under Section 32 of Representation of People Act, 1950.

The BLOs would be punishable with an imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than three months, which may extend to two years along with a fine for not following the orders of the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). No suit or other legal proceeding should lie against any such officer or other person for damages in respect of any such act.  Also no court would take cognizance of any offence punishable under Sub-Section (I) unless there is a complaint made by order of, or under authority from, the Election Commission or the Chief Electoral Officer of the State concerned.

All the BLOs appointed in Hyderabad district have been directed to report before the EROs of the Assembly Constituency concerned and attend their duties viz., door-to-door verification of electoral rolls, verification of list of duplicate voters, enumeration of persons with  disability and other activities allotted to them by the ERO/DEO/CEO from time-to-time under Pre-revision and Revision Activities.
