HYDERABAD: Taking the word ‘adventure’ to the next level, a sexagenarian couple drove their four-wheeler from California to Hyderabad. As unimaginable as it may sound, the Hyderabadi couple braved several continents, oceans and islands to arrive in the city on June 12.

The couple - Dr Rajesh Kadakia (63) and Dr Darshana Kadakia (60), doctors by profession in the USA, covered a staggering distance of 37,000 km over 61 days.

Born in Hyderabad, Dr Rajesh and his wife started their journey from Mukthananda Ashramam in New York. According to a family friend, the couple wanted to spend time together after failing to do so throughout their professional lives. The couple took a plane from New York to Paris and their car was sent as cargo. “They carried sophisticated communication devices and were in constant touch with travel advisors,” said P Janardhan Reddy, a family friend.

“There were instances when the high altitude took a toll on Mrs Kadakia when she had difficulties in breathing. As the couple were doctors, they could come out of the situation,” Reddy added.

A journey for the ages:
USA - France - Belgium - Germany - Denmark - Netherlands - Sweden - Finland - Russia - Kazakhstan - Mongolia - China - Tibet - Nepal- India.
