HYDERABAD: Executive Director of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Krishna Sastry Pendyala had this to say, while explaining how companies’ approach towards cyber attacks have changed through time -- “hundred per cent cybersecurity is a myth”.

Speaking at the SCSC Cyber Security Conclave 4.0 on the ‘Future of Cyber Forensics’ on Tuesday, Pendyala said that companies, previously, used to think that they could eradicate cyber attacks and remain untouched. However, now they have come to terms with the fact that they can only work towards mitigating an inevitable attack, he stated. “The security strategy has now changed from ‘protect-detect-respond’ to ‘respond-detect-protect’,” he opined.

Explaining the pattern in which hackers attack entities, Sastry said, “Unlike before, hackers now target vulnerabilities in hardwares rather than softwares. They also try to modify the actual application code so that it allows malicious content to seep in.”
