HYDERABAD: In an alleged attempt to clamp down student voices, two women students are said to have been orally rusticated from Symbiosis Law School in Hyderabad on Thursday. The students had previously raised a sexual harassment allegation against a professor at the college.

The rustication was reportedly claimed to be on the grounds that the students defamed the institution on electronic media and maligning a professor.

The BA LLB students were allegedly instructed to leave the hostel by Friday evening. While no written rustication orders have been issued, Apoorva YK, one of the girls concerned, claimed that Dean Shashikala Gurpur threatened the girls to pull down their post and render and unconditional apology by Friday or face rustication. “Students who had liked my Facebook posts were also called and threatened with suspension,” Apoorva said.

The college authorities could not be reached for a comment on the issue.
