KOCHI: She is a woman of conviction with oodles of charm. Sarah Jane Dias, who redefined the concept of a beautiful woman during the Miss India Contest in 2007, is set to give sleepless nights to young hearts in the city. The ravishing beauty from Mumbai will send temperatures soaring by adorning the hoardings and TV ads of Kochi-based Mather Projects soon.
“This is my second stint with Mather,” the 25-year-old says as she poses for a commercial shoot at Ivory Heights, Mather’s sprawling apartment complex at Panampilly Nagar. As her team gets her ready with that occasional dab of mascara and a careful swipe of a droplet of sweat, you sure can’t miss the beautiful brown eyes and lovely curls that raised the TRP ratings of many popular shows on Channel V. “I wanted to be a model from when I was three,” says the beauty who set foot on the ramp by winning the Miss India Oman title when she was 15. An offer to host ‘On The Run’ on Channel [V] with Purabh Kohli and Anuskha Manchanda came as a bonus to this Sociology graduate from St Andrews College, Mumbai. “Those were the best three months of my life,” coos the glam girl about one of her favourite shows that introduced viewers to yet to be discovered tourist spots across the country.
“Red Hills, a place near Ooty, was one of the most fascinating places. We travelled 35,000 km in two months and had a blast!” The show had some interesting rules.
The participants could take along only one bag and make just one call home during the journey. Later she became an inspiration to many aspiring models by hosting ‘Get Gorgeous’, a hunt for a super model on Channel [V]. The pinnacle of her career was winning the 2007 Miss India contest. “I felt it was my time to make a mark,” says the model who feels Sushmita, Lara and Priyanka are the best who have walked the ramp for the Miss India title till date. “They are all unique and strong personalities.” An aspect she wishes all the beautiful women in this world should be endowed with.
Though she lost the Miss World contest in 2007, sulking over a lost chance is not her style. The will and mental power of the lady was seen when she met with a car accident last year that left her with a bad knee injury.
Sarah was featured in the video of Australian rock group INXS’s ‘Never Let You Go’ from the album ‘Switch’. The pretty gal who has endorsed brands like Kwality, Clinic Plus, Sony Bravia and Sunsilk feels acting in commercial ads stretches your range of expressions.
“Working with ad directors like Prasoon Pandey and Atul Kasbekar opens for you opportunities to emote,” says Sarah for whom acting comes natural after a tryst with theatre during her school days.
After walking the ramp and tasting adventure the go getter is waiting with bated breath for the next big thing. She will give a run for current number ones in the industry with her debut in the Tamil romantic comedy, ‘Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai’ opposite Vishal Krishna. The film that will be shot soon will also star Bollywood heroines Neetu Chandra and Tanushri Dutta.
