KOCHI: The Parliamentary Committee on Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) on Monday urged the district administration- concerned to complete the pending works sanctioned under the MPLADS before the tenure of the 14th Lok Sabha ends.

The five-member committee headed by Prasanna Acharya was here to review the fund utilisation in four parliamentary constituencies of Ernakulam, Mukundapuram, Idukki and Moovattupuzha.

Much to its surprise, the Committee found that none of the MPsconcerned turned up for the review meeting and when they asked about it, the officials fumbled.

The Committee also criticised the district administration for holding just only three meetings in the last three years to review the progress of the projects under the MPLADS.

As per the report submitted before the Committee, the total amount available for administrative sanction in Ernakulam Lok Sabha Constituency represented by Sebastian Paul was Rs 2756.09 lakh.

Out of the 433 schemes sanctioned so far, 362 were completed spending a sum of Rs 2039.68 lakh and 71 schemes were pending.

In Moovattupuzha constituency represented by P C Thomas, while administrative sanction was accorded to 668 schemes costing Rs 1258.53 lakh, 598 schemes had been completed spending Rs 1056.33 lakh.

While the Mukundapuram constituency represented by Lonappan Nambadan had spent Rs 803.24 lakh and completed 403 schemes out of the 435 schemes sanctioned, the Idukki constituency represented by K Francis George had spent Rs 41.19 lakh completing eight schemes.
