KOCHI: Fort Kochi was shrouded in gloom on Saturday when the funeral of the four youngsters who had drowned in the Periyar was held on Saturday.

The funeral of the four Malayattoor pilgrims, Jerry, Bineesh, Jithin and Rajeev of Manthra, Fort Kochi, were held on Saturday. The funeral of Bineesh, Jithin and Rajeev were held at the public crematorium in Veli while the funeral of Jerry was held at the cemetery of St Peter and Paul church at Amaravathy. The bodies were brought to Fort Kochi on Friday evening after postmortem examination at Perumbavoor Taluk Hospital.

The bodies were received by a huge crowd of local people near Pallathuraman Cultural Centre. Hundreds of people crowded at Fort Kochi to pay homage to the deceased.

Many people from the political and cultural fields, including Kochi Mayor Toni Chammani and MLAs K Babu and Dominic Presentation, were present to pay their last respects. It was on Friday that the four youngsters drowned in the Periyar while returning from Malayattoor. Though they were taken to Perumbavoor Hospital, three of them were declared as brought dead while the fourth one died within minutes. ENS
