KOCHI: The pre-release show of the new version of ‘My dear Kuttichathan’, the first 3D movie of Indian film industry was organised at Gold Souk, Vytilla on Saturday. The pre-release show of the movie was inaugurated by King Mahabali riding in old cycle rickshaw which was used in the first Kuttichathan film in 1984.

The show began after Navodaya Appachan, the producer of the film gifted the 3D glass to ‘Mahabali’ and Aravind who cast the lead role of Chathan in the earlier version of the film.

It was a different experience for several of the audience as many were thrilled by the 3D effects. Many in the theatre had shimmers of fears and astonishment and children who came to watch the movie jumped off the seats seeing chocolates and ice-creams coming out of the screen. After the movie, Mahabali and Aravind were given a grant farewell by the audiences. A special show of the movie was showcased in the Assembly in Thiruvananthapuram last month.

‘My Dear Kuttichathan’ was first released in 1984 during an Onam season. Navodaya banner has come back with the same project after 27 years. The first part of the movie has created many records and was continuously shown in Dhanya theatre in Thiruvananthapuram for six months. Film producer Appachan, director Jijo and four actors won the President’s gold medal for their venture the same year.

The movie was also released in 1997 with little modification. New version of ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’ is produced by Navodaya Appachan under Navodaya banner. The movie is directed by Jijo, son of Navodaya Appachan.

The movie will be shown through 3D digital projection. The 3D glasses are also ready for the show. The total budget of ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’ is `2 crore. The movie will be released across the state on Wednesday.
