KOCHI: To create theatre consciousness in children and to develop their personality, a group of theatre lovers under the banner of ‘A Centre for Theatre’ (ACT) will launch ‘Nadaka Kalari’ at SRV High School on April 16.

 “The Nadaka Kalari is part of the launch of  ACT’s children’s wing ‘Butterfly’,” said G Ajayan, its artistic director. The seven-day camp titled ‘Colours of Theatre’ will be inaugurated by actor Nedumudi Venu.

 Around 40 students across the state have responded to the notification and many more are expected to come. “We are expecting at least 120 student from Ernakulam Sub-District," said N K Santhosh, Hindi teacher at SRV School.

 This is an offshoot of the one-day skit programme organised at SRV School recently, and the film festival ‘Contemporary Dreams’.  “Students came up with amazing concepts on the theme ‘anti-liquor campaign’ in their three-minute scripts which was staged here. The show was so good that it spurred us to tap their talent and that of students across the state by setting up a children’s theatre," said Santhosh.

 Rajan M Krishnan, C J Kuttappan, Pattanam Rasheed, Aashiq Abu, Sreejith Dazler, Anoop Chandran, Satheesh K Satheesh, Jayaprakash Varma among others will conduct classes.  

  Students will be guided into every aspect of theatre in the camp. How to conceive a situation, writing scripts, and dialogue, characterisation, costume and much more.

  The camp aims to mould artistically-inclined students. Students from class IV to IX can participate in 'Nadaka Kalari'. And at the end of the camp, a play will be staged. Selected students will also be trained to stage G Sankara Pillai’s ‘Urumbukal’ at the national fest, he said. Plays by different groups outside the camp will also be staged. The drama

prepared bt the production team of the camp will be staged on the last day.

  The camp will be held in association with Kochi Corporation, Public Library and Tharangam Cultural Centre. The fee is `500 which includes food.
