Express News Service

A Central Branch SI from Alappuzha was found travelling without a proper ticket on  Alappuzha-Chennai Express on Friday. The SI, along with a few others, were later handed over to the Railway Protection Force. The  officials stated that a person holding a season ticket is barred from travelling in the first class reservation compartment of the Alappuzha-Chennai Express in the Thiruvananthapuram division.

However, the provision holds for those travelling in Venad and Parasuram Express trains. “Since those who used the compartment were not aware of this, the police did not arrest them. However, we asked the defaulters  to pay the required fine. The incident was a owing to a misunderstanding,” said an official with the Railway Protection Force.

Around 16 ticket checking officials and four RPF officials conducted a surprise raid on Friday in the Alappuzha-Chennai Express.

The check was intensified based on the complaints filed by the reservation compartment passengers stating that season ticket users were using the seats reserved for them.
