Sachin S and Abhijit Menon of Bhavans Vidya Mandir, Eroor, were adjudged winners of the regional finals of the IT Wiz Quiz contest conducted by Tata Consultancies Limited (TCS) at Gokulam Convention Centre on Friday. Over 500 teams comprising 1,000 students from across the state engaged in a battle of wits.
Vasudev Chakravarty and Karthik G of Bhavans Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad came second.
From a keenly-fought preliminary round, six teams qualified for the finals. Over 500 teams participated. The competition level was so intense that even after getting 18 out of 20 questions correct, some teams could not qualify! Quiz master Giri Balasubramaniam was all praise for the high level of quizzing.
The students were asked a variety of questions based on Information Technology. The audience were treated to various trivia like Nokia being the largest manufacturer of digital cameras, via the cameras present in their mobile phones. Many of questions in the five rounds of the final enlightened both audience and participants alike.
Kochi range IG K Padmakumar IPS distributed the prizes. Santosh Kurup, Kochi Branch head of TCS, Thomas V Simon, vice president, Human Resources, TCS were also present on the occasion. The IG, an avid quizzer during his school and college days, conceded that the level of quizzing has grown to bigger heights.
The winners will participate in the national finals to be held in December.
