New outfit in FACT to promote sports

Express News Service

The employees of Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT) have established a new association on Thursday.

As part of the initiative, the association will submit a memorandum to the  FACT administration demanding revival of sports activities which was  suspended 10 years ago. The decision was taken at a meeting convened by the employees, former sports persons and various trade unions of the FACT at Eloor on Thursday.

Former FACT team football caption Walter Antony said the unit had once  delivered promising sports persons for the state. But, owing to financial crisis, the FACT administration had to suspend all activities. However, the demand to start the games once again cropped up after FACT started registering better growth and profit.

“We have been demanding this for some time now. The administration has also failed to renovate the playgrounds,” he said. He added that they will bring back the lost glory of sports at FACT.

“In fact, we have pledged in front of the former director of (FACT) M K K Nair’s statue that protest will be intensified if the administration fails to take steps to bring back games,” he added.

INTUC leader Saju Varghees, BMS leader Sivasankaran, FACT Workers Union  leader Sen and former FACT sports persons took part at the meeting.
