Consensus on land rates for Kochi Metro

The State Empowered Committee has agreed that land for the metro project can be  acquired as per the rates fixed by the District Level Purchase Committee. The District Collector has announced that Rs 52 lakh per cent will be given as compensation for the land owners for the widening work of the Banerjee road, South Railway Station road and the MG road.

The rates for the land was fixed after several meetings between the district Collector and the land owners. Now that the rates have been fixed, it will be possible to pay 80 per cent of the total compensation to each land owner prior to the widening work.

The land owners have also agreed with the fixed rates. The empowered committee has agreed to pay `28 lakh as compensation for the land owners for the construction of the foot over bridge at the KSRTC bus stand. The committee has reached an agreement that ` 18.50 lakh can be paid as compensation for the construction of the approach road for the Ponnurunni RoB.

 The committee has also decided to acquire land to carry out four schemes related to Thammanam-Pullepady road widening, Korankadavu bridge, bridges near the Seaport-Airport Road and Matathamkadavu bridge. Out of the 20 acres of land meant for the Thammanam-Pullepady road, 8.51 acres have been sanctioned.

The meeting was convened in the presence of the Chief Secretary at Thiruvananthapuram.
