Cardamom auction resumes at Spice Park

The small cardamom auction which remained suspended for about a month resumed on Wednesday.

The auctioning was suspended following the cardamom dealers’ protest against the rise in auction bidding prices.

The auction held at the Spice Park of the Spices Board in Puttady had the participation of cardamom dealers from Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and recorded sales of about 15 tonnes in the morning, and 21 tonnes in the afternoon sessions.

The auctions were held based on the newly fixed bidding price of Rs 2 per kg.

A total of 24 dealers attended the morning auction which recorded a maximum price of Rs 1,020 per kg and a minimum price of Rs 473.

The auction recorded an average price of Rs 678.50 per kg.  The afternoon session witnessed the participation of 30 dealers, and recorded a maximum price of Rs 906 per kg and a minimum price of `366 per kg.

The average price recorded was Rs 673.78.

The presence of the Kerala State Cooperative Marketing Federation at the auction was noticeable. More government agencies are expected to take part in the auction in the coming months, said an official release.
