Sulekha case: CBI sends knife to FSL

Express News Service

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the Sulekha murder case has sent a knife, which was suspected to have been used by the killer, for scientific examination to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Thiruvananthapuram.

A knife was found in the Periyar Valley Canal by the local people while cleaning the canal, and they had handed it over to the CBI in first week of this month. The CBI had produced the knife before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, and it had given the sanction to conduct an examination at the FSL. According to CBI officials, the knife was found adjacent to the place where Sulekha was found murdered. Sulekha, hailing from Kummanode near Pattimattom, was found dead in a rubber plantation on July 29, 2006. Following a High Court order, the CBI had taken over the investigation in February this year. The court had also asked the agency to file a report within six months.

The CBI had registered a First Information Report (FIR) against an unknown person in the case. The CBI officials believe that this will be a turning point in the case.
